Exploring outside the Planetarium

This blog post follows on from  my last blog post May the Force be with you

We went exploring outside the Planetarium it was fun! I climbed some trees when I was outside :)

Next we visited the Solar System! :) Bunny took pics of me at each planet :) We started off at the Sun :) Which Bunny told me the Sun is a BIIIIIIGGG star that is burning up gas or energy as she called it, which is why we get heat and light from it here on Earth.

Next I visited the first planet in our Solar System nearest the Sun which is Mercury.

Bunny then told me that that during the days on Mercury it is very VERY hot! and really REALLY cold during the nights.  I don't think I'd like to live there, which is good because it has almost no atmosphere and it is said to be very rocky. Mercury was named after Mercury, the mythical Roman winged messenger and escort of dead souls to the underworld.

After Mercury is Venus.

Bunny says that Venus is the hottest planet in our Solar System. Bunny said this is because it is covered with fast-moving sulphuric acid clouds which trap heat from the Sun and it has a thick atmosphere that is mostly carbon dioxide. I wouldn't like to live on Venus either, I wouldn't be able to breathe! Venus is also known as the "morning star" or the "evening star" since it is visible and quite bright at either dawn or dusk. It is only visible at dawn or dusk since it is closer to the sun than we are. Venus was named after the Roman goddess of love.

After Venus is Earth.

I know this one :) Earth is the plane that we are on, it's a very nice planet and I am happy that we live here. Well compared to the planets Mercury and Venus.

After Earth is Mars.

Bunny says that Mars is a planet that is most like Earth in our Solar System. She also told me it is known as The Red Planet, because well it's red. She says this is because of all the Iron and Iron Oxide in the planet. Mars is named after the Roman god of war.

After Mars is Jupiter.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in our Solar System. Bunny said it is a gas giant, because it is a gas planet and it is big. Jupiter is a bright planet, visible in the night sky. Jupiter is named after the the king of the gods in Roman mythology. He was the god of the sky and thunder.

After Jupiter is Saturn.

Saturn is the second largest planet in our Solar System (after Jupiter). Bunny said that is another gas planet and that Saturn has beautiful rings which are made up of ice and some rock.  Saturn was named after the Roman god of agriculture.

After Saturn is Uranus.

Uranus is a frozen gas planet. I really wouldn't want to live there!  Uranus was named after the Roman god of Father Sky.

After Uranus is Neptune.
Neptune is another gas planet. Neptune was named after the mythical Roman god of the seas.

After Neptune is Pluto.

Pluto is the furthest planet in our Solar System. Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet in 2006. We don't yet know what Pluto is like but it is VERY cold! Bunny says that it most likely would be colder than Neptune at night. This is because it is furthest from the Sun.

Bunny then taught me a rhyme to remember the order of the planets :)

My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas

(Mercury,Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto).

Next blog post continues with my adventures in the grounds of the Armagh Planetarium.
